PanaTV signs deals to stream ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’


The African online television service, PanaTV has signed an exclusive deal with Soda Pictures, acquiring the rights to subscription VOD for one of the most acclaimed films from Africa this year, “Half of a Yellow Sun.” which was basically about the Biafra War.
This cheering news is coming a week after the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB,maintained that the big-budget film would not get its approval for public release in Nigeria until certain aspects of the film that bother on ‘national security’ are expunged.
The deal makes PanaTV.com the first online television service to stream the film exclusively on its platform in the United Kingdom. And in a deal concluded with Monterey Media, PanaTV has secured non-exclusive rights to also stream the film in the United States along with a limited shared exclusive pre-window. The movie, HVP gathered will be available for VOD in the US from Sunday, June 29, and in the UK from August, 2014.
According to Mandy Roger, PanaTV’s Head of Content, “This demonstrates that we seek out high quality films for our viewers …expect to see more of such quality films and content on PanaTV this year.”
