The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, on Monday in Abuja, stated that the activities of the Boko Haram Islamic should not be misinterpreted as a declaration of war by Muslims against Christians or the Federal Government.
The Secretary-General of NSCIA, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated this at the plenary while responding to a goodwill message expressed by the Christian delegates to Muslims in commemoration of the Ramadan season.
Oloyede, who is also a member of the Naftional Conference, said on behalf of the Muslim community in Nigeria, he accepted with gratitude “the message of goodwill expressed by our Christian brothers and sisters.”
The Bishop of Kafanchan and delegate at the conference, Joseph Bagobiri, had in a motion of urgent national importance, congratulated the Muslims on the Ramadan while also calling for religious harmony and peaceful co-existence.
According to him, the sighting of the moon last Saturday marked the beginning of the month of Ramadan for Muslims, particularly in Nigeria, which he described as”a period we traditionally know to be one of prayer, fasting and arms giving.”
He said, “I wish to on behalf of the team representing the Christian Association of Nigeria, and indeed the entire Christian, salute and show solidarity to our Muslim brothers and sisters as they embark on this great and intensely spiritual exercise.”
Bagobiri added that it was not just by coincidence that the conference started during the Christians Lent and would be ending during Muslims Ramadan.
“God must be saying something profound to us as nation: that we must repent and change from the part that lead to disaster, self-destruction and embrace that part that leads to peace, prosperity and harmonious co-existence as a people”, he stressed
