And yet Brad Pitt couldn’t look more serene on Vanity Fair’s June cover.
The 49-year-old shows off his pearly white teeth and piercing blue eyes on the front of the upcoming issue, which takes an in-depth look at the problems that dogged the production of his zombie epic.
Now, Vanity Fair is revealing just how difficult it was getting the film to screen.
‘We started shooting the thing before we locked down how it was going to end up, and it didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to,’ screenwriter Damon Lindelof says Pitt explained of World War Z.
The reshoot came after the producers watched the director’s cut. ‘It was, like, Wow. The ending of our movie doesn’t work,’ said Paramount executive Marc Evans. ‘I believed in that moment we needed to reshoot the movie.’
An entire 12-minute Russian battle scene was discarded as the filmmakers rushed to create an improved ending to the movie.
‘He took me through how excited he was when he read the book, what was exciting for him, the geopolitical aspect of it,’ Lindelof told the publication of meeting the star to discuss the script.
Brad recently revealed his motivation for making the film, stating that he did it for his three sons.
Introducing the trailer at the annual CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas earlier this month, Brad explained exactly what drove him to make the zombie epic.

‘Listen, five years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about a zombie; today, I consider myself an expert,’ he said.
‘This whole thing started because I just wanted to do a film that my boys could see before they turned 18 – one that they would like, anyways. And they love a zombie.’
Pitt continued: ‘So, we settled on this book, Max Brooks’ book, called World War Z.’
Brad has three sons, Maddox, Pax and Knox, as well as three daughters Zahara, Shiloh and Vivienne with partner Angelia Jolie.
