Wizkid, eLDee, D’Prince… See the list of 5 acts who dumped rap for pop music
Not every pop star started out singing and composing smash hit singles. Some of the biggest pop stars in the game today started out as rappers. Let’s highlight the top pop stars who were once rappers… Let’s know if we missed out any names!
1. eLDee- When the history of Nigerian Hip Hop is written, eLDee will undoubtedly have more than a few pages. Unknown to many of eLDee’s younger fans the former leader of the rap group Trybesmen not only laid the blueprint of the modern Nigerian rap sound but was the first to go the Alaba route. In his rap days, eLDee helped kick start the careers of some of today’s biggest rappers which include Sasha, Blaise and 2 Shotz. He was no slouch on the mic either as he held his own with rhyme partners Freestyle and Kaboom. But now, he has quit spitting bars; choosing instead to be a singer, with so many hits under his belt. Once in a while though he still lets the rapper in him come out.
2. Skales- Skales might have big pop hits such as ‘Mukulu’ and ‘Ko Mo Le’ but anyone who knows his history knows that he was once touted as the next great rapper to come out from the North. His debut single ‘Heading For A Grammy’ had Hip Hop lovers giving him their stamp of approval. Skales however flipped the script a couple of years later when he started dropping pop singles. Even though he sings a lot these days he still drops a few rap verses when he can just like he did on ‘Baddest Boy’
3. Dr. Sid- Dr. Sid was once a member of the now defunct rap collective ‘Da Trybe’ founded by eLDee. The Mavin star today is one of Nigeria’s most consistent pop acts but back in the day Dr. Sid was more concerned about rhyming than singing. When he joined Mo’ Hits he still had his rap cape on but when his solo album Turning Point dropped in 2010, Dr. Sid was all about hooks, melodies and harmonies. And he hasn’t looked back.
4. D’ Prince- Don Jazzy’s younger brother once had his sights on being a very good rapper. His features on the Mo’ Hits compilation album showed a young D’ Prince trying to be a good rapper. However when his solo career kicked off he left all that behind and turned pop. He hasn’t done badly for himself judging by the number of hits he has stacked.
5. Wizkid- Surprised? Before Wizkid became the huge pop star he is today he was a young rapper hoping for a big break on the streets of Surulere. Tracks of Wizkid rapping are rare but if you check out Wizkid’s freestyle on Tim Westwood and listen to ‘That’s Me’ featuring Paedae you can see the viral star boy busting a few rhymes

The sequel 'Retaliation' met little resistance at the box office, storming to the top spot on a healthy Easter weekend at theaters
G.I. Joe: Retaliation stormed the box office this weekend, capturing the top spot and propelling a solid Easter weekend at theaters.
The toy-inspired sequel collected $41.2 million, according to studio estimates from the box-office tracking firm Hollywood.com.
The debut met most analysts' expectations and comes a week after the animated The Croods topped the box office with a strong debut as studios begin thawing their action and kid-friendly films for summer.
Retaliation, starring Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum, didn't enlist many critics for its cause. Only 29% recommended the movie, according to pollsters Rottentomatoes.com. About 64% of fans, though, gave the movie a thumbs-up.
Retaliation flourished despite this year being a tough one for shoot-'em-ups. Sylvester Stallone's Bullet to the Head and Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand opened to harsh reviews and an indifferent public.
"This year is proving that most of the known franchises are mostly succeeding, while the new action entries are not," says Tim Briody of Boxofficeprophets.com.

Kanye and Kim to name their child Khrist? Weird stuff yeah?
Well, that's if you believe Radar Online. Below is how they are reporting it
A new report claims that a different frontrunner for the Kimye baby has emerged — Khrist. As in, “Christ with a K,” according to Naughty But Nice Rob.“Kanye likes the name Khrist,” an insider says. The source is also smart to point out that Kanye has a new single coming out titled, “I Am a God,” so blasphemy isn’t really an obstacle for him: “I know it is shocking, but let’s remember that this is a guy that is naming his new CD, ‘I Am A God.’ So it makes perfect sense that the child of a god would be named Christ with a K.”There's only one big G - God, mr West. He should have used the small letter g, as in god. And Khrist West? LMAO...let's pray for the sake of the child that this is another rumour...:-)

How A Nigerian Boy Photoshopped Kim Kardashian's Twitter Account To Insult Nigerian Women
When I first saw the shocking tweet yesterday...I took a second look and had a very big laugh at some very obvious flaws which most Nigerians did not observe in the fake tweet...see the fake tweet below...
...among the flaws I noticed were:
- The fonts are much more bolder than the normal twitter fonts
- As at yesterday(26 Mar 2013) the tweet was already showing 26 Mar 2013...which is not suppose to be so....it was only suppose to show the number of hours ago that it was tweeted and not the current date.
- Kim Kardashian's twitter page has always had pink links and not blue as seen in the above tweet
- And you do not get to see those additional information like ''via Twitter'' and ''Embed this tweet'' on a normal tweet the way it is above.
These amongst others where what made me ignored it yesterday...but a lot on people actually believed she tweeted it and have been blasting Kim K on twitter since yesterday....too bad...funny enough...the guy behind the whole drama seems to be having fun...looking at some of his tweets below...
....so on this note....I rest my case!
EXCLUSIVE: Inside story of Jesse Jagz’s war with Chocolate City
Jesse Jagz on Wednesday, March 30, 2012 via his personal Facebook account shocked fans worldwide when he categorically stated that he was taking a ‘voluntary exit from his label Chocolate City’.
His statement:
‘I, Jesse Garba Abaga (also known as
‘Jesse Jagz’) an artist formerly signed to Chocolate City Music label
hereby wishes to notify my fans and the general public about my
voluntary exit from the label.
After my initial two year
contractual agreement with Chocolate City, I do not wish to renew my
contract with them and as such have proceeded to continue my music
career with my new team at Jesse Jagz Nation.
I still maintain a cordial relationship with the management of
Chocolate City and my former label mates and I wish them the best in all their future endeavours.
Any further information will be
passed across through my publicist but until then, have a good day. Look
out for my sophomore album JagZNation Vol. 1 coming out in July 2013′.
This comes as a sudden shock to everyone
including some staff and executives at Chocolate City but those in the
know will tell you this was long expected.
Close sources to Jesse Jagz and Chocolate City tell us there had been an ungoing war between the ‘Wetin dey’ singer and the popular label.
Jagz, one source told NET, ‘was fed up with the way the label was handling his career and decided to frustrate them in return.’
Jagz last release was his debut album in May 2010, after then he sort of went into comatose, save for his production of Ice Prince and BrymO’s albums in 2011 and 2012 and a few minor releases, we might not have noticed his presence.
‘Chocolate City have a one-year/one-artiste project run’, a staff at Chocolate City tells NET.
(2008-2009 was M.I, then ’09-’10 was
Jesse, ’10-’11 was M.I again, ’11-’12 was Ice Prince, ’12-’13 was for
Brymo, this year’s run ’13-’14 was meant to be for Jesse Jagz).
‘But Chocolate City signed three new acts – Pryse, Nosa and Victoria Kimani and started concentrating on the last two when they noticed Jesse had started giving them trouble’, our source adds.
‘Jesse would refuse to go to the
label’s studio at Lekki Phase 1, he and the other choc boys M.I and Ice
Prince had built separate studios in their Palmgroove, Lagos residence.
Jesse just kept making music, a lot of music, over 100 songs’.
Then there were allegedly two strong claims the label made against ‘Jargo’; the first that he owed a lot of money.
‘Choc City said Jargo owed them money,
there were several cases where he would travel to the North for a gig
and wouldn’t bring back anything to the label. At times, he would claim
they paid him just to appear and that didn’t hold under his contractual
agreement’.
The second was his alleged substance
abuse. There are very strong claims that Jesse Jagz, a truly talented
rapper and producer, is addicted to Marijuana.
‘Everybody smokes ‘igbo’ but Jesse’s
own was too much! He would be reeking of Igbo smell when he came up to
the studio to hang out. Don’t you see his Instagram photos, don’t you
read his revolutionary tweets? He thinks he’s Fela or Bob Marley for
Christ’s sake!‘
Sources say Sola Oladebo, Jesse’s manager for the last three years, is tired of the whole situation.
‘Sola is tired, fed up but can’t
leave him now, he has invested too much time in Jargo. At a time, there
was nothing to do as Jesse career was dormant, so when Choc City fired
Ice Prince’s former manager in 2012, they made Sola the interim manager’.
We are told till the night of his shocking announcement, elder brother M.I and the other Choc Boys were unaware of his self-imposed exit. M.I had just released his comeback single for his next album ‘The Chairman’ when Jesse dropped the bombshell.
‘M.I was as shocked as everyone
else. He’s not happy Jesse didn’t tell him of the situation first. He
has erased all thoughts of leaving Choc City now as a sign to show
loyalty’, a friend to M.I says.
An insider told us over the weekend, that the last straw that broke the camel’s back was when Audu Maikori, top exec at the label summoned him via E-mail, he simply replied with two words ‘F**k You’.
Maikori could not be reached and we’re
told that following Jagz’ statement, he immediately contacted all staff
(including artistes) and instructed them not to speak to the press.
Attempts to reach him and other staff at the label through emails, phone calls and text messages have been unsuccessful.
Jesse’s manager could not be reached for comments as his mobile phone was switched off.
Will other acts follow suit? An insider tells us ‘Watch
out for Brymo, he might also throw in the towel soon. He had issues
with Vice Presido M.I in 2012, he also has grown wings, you can never
tell’.
But there are the likes of M.I and Ice
Prince - two prized acts at the successful label who have publicly
assured fans Choc City will remain home for a long time.
Jesse Jagz, 28, signed to the label
along with his elder brother Jude ‘M.I’ Abaga in 2008 after the gifted
rapper became an instant success with his debut ‘Talk About It‘.
Jesse Jagz in late 2009 went on to release his debut ‘Jagz of All Trades’ which spurned the hit songs ‘Wetin dey’ amongst other chart topping cuts.

MEND condemns Jail Term Passed on Leader, Henry Okah And Threatens Hell
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, on Tuesday condemned the 24-year jail term passed on its leader, Henry Okah, by the South African High Court over charges that he masterminded a series of terrorism incidents, including the October 1, 2010 twin bombings in Abuja.
The group threatened ‘hell’ over the conviction of Mr. Okah.
Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo, has also condemned the trial and conviction of Mr. Okah, describing the sentence by the South African court as “totally flawed.”
Justice Neels Claaseen of the High Court in South Gauteng in South Africa on Tuesday sentenced Mr. Okah to 24 years in prison after finding him guilty on 13 terrorism charges, including the Abuja bombing in which a dozen persons were killed as Nigeria was celebrating its 50th independence anniversary.
